Therapy is

living. It is inviting another person (the therapist) into your
confidence to share and grow together. It is not about getting
advice so much as learning and understanding your own advice that
is based on your goals and important values. It is about sharing
important events, feelings, and thoughts. It is about building
bridges in many different contexts. It is about sharpening the
sense of what is important to you and to determine how you can make
it happen. As your therapist I respect this time in sharing in your
life, in your pain or despair, in your hope, and/or in your goals.
I commend you and admire you for taking this step to make a better
world for yourself and others. As your therapist I view my task as
walking beside you, learning and understanding what it is like to
be you, then becoming a coauthor with you in building that sense of
